Psalms
6:5:
To
the
chief
Musician
on
Neginoth
upon
Sheminith,
A
Psalm
of
David.
O
LORD,
rebuke
me
not
in
thine
anger,
neither
chasten
me
in
thy
hot
displeasure.
Have
mercy
upon
me,
O
LORD;
for
I
am
weak:
O
LORD,
heal
me;
for
my
bones
are
vexed.
My
soul
is
also
sore
vexed:
but
thou,
O
LORD,
how
long?
Return,
O
LORD,
deliver
my
soul:
oh
save
me
for
thy
mercies'
sake.
For
in
death
there
is
no
remembrance
of
thee:
in
the
grave
who
shall
give
thee
thanks?
Has God given you mercy? If you say no then your mind doesn't work right. If you haven't thanked God for His mercy then why should He extend anymore mercy to you? As this Psalm says, God gets as much thanks from a dead unthankful person as He does from one that is living.
Psalms
18:48-49:
He
delivereth
me
from
mine
enemies:
yea,
thou
liftest
me
up
above
those
that
rise
up
against
me:
thou
hast
delivered
me
from
the
violent
man.
Therefore
will
I
give
thanks
unto
thee,
O
LORD,
among
the
heathen,
and
sing
praises
unto
thy
name.
See
verses
1-6,
16-17,
21-27,
28,
30,
35,
43.
Have
you
thanked
God
for
protection?
God's
word
says:
Who
shall
separate
us
from
the
love
of
Christ?
.
Do
you
thank
God
for
trials
and
problems?
The
only
way
that
you
see
God
work
in
your
life
is
if
Hew
first
puts
you
in
a
situation
where
it
is
obvious
to
everyone
that
it
was
God
who
delivered
you
and
not
some
man.
So,
do
you
look
at
trials
and
problems
as
a
chance
to
see
God
work
in
your
life
or
do
you
complain
about
them?
Psalms
26:4-8:
I
have
not
sat
with
vain
persons,
neither
will
I
go
in
with
dissemblers.
I
have
hated
the
congregation
of
evil
doers;
and
will
not
sit
with
the
wicked.
I
will
wash
mine
hands
in
innocency:
so
will
I
compass
thine
altar,
O
LORD:
That
I
may
publish
with
the
voice
of
thanksgiving,
and
tell
of
all
thy
wondrous
works.
LORD,
I
have
loved
the
habitation
of
thy
house,
and
the
place
where
thine
honour
dwelleth.
Have
you
seen
God's
wondrous
works
?
If
yes,
then
are
you
thanking
God
and
telling
others
about
how
God
blessed
you?
If
not
then
it
is
because
you
are
hanging
out
with
the
wrong
type
of
people.
God's
people
see
God
working
even
in
other
people's
lives.
The
lost
only
look
at
themselves
and
what
they
want.
You
need
to
separate
from
people
who
like
to
sin
and
stay
with
people
who
love
God's
house.
If
you
continue
to
lie
down
with
dogs
then
you
cannot
avoid
getting
fleas.
Psalms
30:1-5,
11-12:
I
will
extol
thee,
O
LORD;
for
thou
hast
lifted
me
up,
and
hast
not
made
my
foes
to
rejoice
over
me.
O
LORD
my
God,
I
cried
unto
thee,
and
thou
hast
healed
me.
O
LORD,
thou
hast
brought
up
my
soul
from
the
grave:
thou
hast
kept
me
alive,
that
I
should
not
go
down
to
the
pit.
Sing
unto
the
LORD,
of
ye
saints
of
his,
and
give
thanks
at
the
remembrance
of
his
holiness.
For
his
anger
endureth
but
a
moment;
in
his
favour
is
life:
weeping
may
endure
for
a
night,
but
joy
cometh
in
the
morning. ...Thou
hast
turned
for
me
my
mourning
into
dancing:
thou
hast
put
off
my
sackcloth,
and
girded
me
with
gladness;
To
the
end
that
my
glory
may
sing
praise
to
thee,
and
not
be
silent.
O
LORD
my
God,
I
will
give
thanks
unto
thee
for
ever.
Has God removed punishment after He had to correct you? Have you thanked Him that His just punishment for sin was not permanent and was not any longer than you required to change your attitude?
Psalms
35:17-18:
Lord,
how
long
wilt
thou
look
on?
rescue
my
soul
from
their
destructions,
my
darling
from
the
lions.
I
will
give
thee
thanks
in
the
great
congregation:
I
will
praise
thee
among
much
people.
Are you having a bad time because you were good to someone and they hurt you instead of thanking you? Have you ever failed to thank God and instead complained because He didn't do things your way? We can turn things around by thanking God in all circumstances.
Psalms
50:14-15:
Offer
unto
God
thanksgiving;
and
pay
thy
vows
unto
the
most
High:
And
call
upon
me
in
the
day
of
trouble:
I
will
deliver
thee,
and
thou
shalt
glorify
me.
This
is
instructions
from
God
to
His
people.
Notice
His
promise
of
deliverance
comes
only
after
we
are
first,
thankful,
then
we
do
what
we
vowed
to
do,
then
we
call
on
Him,
instead
of
complaining,
when
we
are
in
the
day
of
trouble
.
But,
also
notice
what
God
says
to
the
unthankful
and
disobedient.
But
unto
the
wicked
God
saith,
What
hast
thou
to
do
to
declare
my
statutes,
or
that
thou
shouldest
take
my
covenant
in
thy
mouth?
Seeing
thou
hatest
instruction,
and
castest
my
words
behind
thee
.
This
Psalm
ends
with:
Now
consider
this,
ye
that
forget
God,
lest
I
tear
you
in
pieces,
and
there
be
none
to
deliver.
Whoso
offereth
praise
glorifieth
me:
and
to
him
that
ordereth
his
conversation
aright
will
I
shew
the
salvation
of
God.
Psalms
69:30-31:
I
will
praise
the
name
of
God
with
a
song,
and
will
magnify
him
with
thanksgiving.
This
also
shall
please
the
LORD
better
than
an
ox
or
bullock
that
hath
horns
and
hoofs.
This is a Psalm that deals with Christ on the cross. Have you thanked Him for His sacrifice and your salvation? Have you displayed the same attitude when you had to suffer for another, especially when you had to suffer because of what that person had done to you?
Psalms
75:1:
Unto
thee,
of
God,
do
we
give
thanks,
unto
thee
do
we
give
thanks:
for
that
thy
name
is
near
thy
wondrous
works
declare.
This is the start of a Psalm about God's righteous judgment, which we should thank God for. Because of God's righteous judgment, we will receive rewards for our having a Christ-like spirit when we thank God for all that He allows us to experience.
Psalms
92:1:
A
Psalm
or
Song
for
the
sabbath
day.
It
is
a
good
thing
to
give
thanks
unto
the
LORD,
and
to
sing
praises
unto
thy
name,
of
most
High:
This is the start of a Psalm that list several things which we should be thankful for. Read the Psalm prayerfully and thank God for each of the items mentioned.
Psalms
95:1-2:
O
come,
let
us
sing
unto
the
LORD:
let
us
make
a
joyful
noise
to
the
rock
of
our
salvation.
Let
us
come
before
his
presence
with
thanksgiving,
and
make
a
joyful
noise
unto
him
with
psalms.
This is a the start of a psalm of worship. Here we see that expressing thanks is part of true worship.
Psalms
97:12:
Rejoice
in
the
LORD,
ye
righteous;
and
give
thanks
at
the
remembrance
of
his
holiness.

Psalms
100:1-5:
A
Psalm
of
praise.
Make
a
joyful
noise
unto
the
LORD,
all
ye
lands.
Serve
the
LORD
with
gladness:
come
before
his
presence
with
singing.
Know
ye
that
the
LORD
he
is
God:
it
is
he
that
hath
made
us,
and
not
we
ourselves;
we
are
his
people,
and
the
sheep
of
his
pasture.
Enter
into
his
gates
with
thanksgiving,
and
into
his
courts
with
praise:
be
thankful
unto
him,
and
bless
his
name.
For
the
LORD
is
good;
his
mercy
is
everlasting;
and
his
truth
endureth
to
all
generations.
Just thank God for the type of God that He is.
Psalms
105:1:
O
give
thanks
unto
the
LORD;
call
upon
his
name:
make
known
his
deeds
among
the
people.
Thanksgiving is part of proper praise.
Psalms
106:1:
Praise
ye
the
LORD.
of
give
thanks
unto
the
LORD;
for
he
is
good:
for
his
mercy
endureth
for
ever.
This is the start of a Psalm asking for God to forgive and save,' It starts with thanks, continues with all of the good works and blessings that God gave in the past, it recognizes sin by God's people and what it took for them to receive mercy, it promises to act like the people that received mercy it promises to act like the people that received mercy and then asks for salvation and mercy.
Psalms
106:47:
Save
us,
O
LORD
our
God,
and
gather
us
from
among
the
heathen,
to
give
thanks
unto
thy
holy
name,
and
to
triumph
in
thy
praise.
We are to thank God every time that He delivers us.
Psalms
107:1:
O
give
thanks
unto
the
LORD,
for
he
is
good:
for
his
mercy
endureth
for
ever.
This phrase is repeated several times in this Psalm that recounts sin by God's people and the judgment that God had to give and that they had to be thankful to get out of punishment. The message is that if we would just stay thankful for all that God gives then we would avoid a lot of punishment.
Psalms
116:17-19:
Psalms
116:17-19I
will
offer
to
thee
the
sacrifice
of
thanksgiving,
and
will
call
upon
the
name
of
the
LORD.
I
will
pay
my
vows
unto
the
LORD
now
in
the
presence
of
all
his
people,
In
the
courts
of
the
LORD'S
house,
in
the
midst
of
thee,
of
Jerusalem.
Praise
ye
the
LORD.
This is the end of a Psalm of thanksgiving after deliverance from just punishment. We not only need a thankful heart in order to get forgiveness and mercy, but we also need a thankful heart after receiving them.
Psalms
118:1,29:
O
give
thanks
unto
the
LORD;
for
he
is
good:
because
his
mercy
endureth
for
ever.
This phrase starts and ends this Psalm which tells us who should thank the Lord and why.
Psalms

At
midnight
I
will
rise
to
give
thanks
unto
thee
because
of
thy
righteous
judgments.
This is part way through the longest Psalm that tells us about God's Word and His legal system. We should thank God for His justice.
Psalms
122:4:
Whither
the
tribes
go
up,
the
tribes
of
the
LORD,
unto
the
testimony
of
Israel,
to
give
thanks
unto
the
name
of
the
LORD.
This is part of a Psalm telling us why we should go to church. One reason is to give thanks to God and to remind us to do this simple thing which get us many blessings.
Psalms

O
give
thanks
unto
the
LORD;
for
he
is
good:
for

endureth
for
ever. O
give
thanks
unto
the
God
of
gods:
for
his
mercy
endureth
for
ever. O
give
thanks
to
the
Lord
of
lords:
for
his
mercy
endureth
for
ever. ...O
give
thanks
unto
the
God
of
Heaven:
for
his
mercy
endureth
for
ever.
God uses repetition to try and get the message through to our brains so that we will meditate on the truth.
Psalms
140:13:
Surely
the
righteous
shall
give
thanks
unto
thy
name:
the
upright
shall
dwell
in
thy
presence.
This
is
the
end
of
a
psalm
asking
for
protection
from
the
evil
and
violent
man.
This
ending
tells
us
that
righteous
shall
give
thanks
,
which
excludes
those
who
cannot
give
thanks
from
the
righteous
.
Psalms
147:7:
Sing
unto
the
LORD
with
thanksgiving;
sing
praise
upon
the
harp
unto
our
God:
Who
covereth
the
Heaven
with
clouds,
who
prepareth
rain
for
the
earth,
who
maketh
grass
to
grow
upon
the
mountains.
This Psalm tells us that a proper song service includes thanksgiving. We are to praise and thank God for all that He provides for us.
