There are a lot of people and religions which teach many different doctrinal errors about God's low
which applies to people today. Those teachings vary from 'there are no laws which apply to us today' to 'God will destroy you if you ever disobey any part of my law' with many people and religions claiming that God has to enforce 'their law'. This Study provides a high-level teaching about what the word of God
actually says about law
. That is what God will use to judge everyone. Therefore, what the word of God
actually says is all that we need to worry about and all other teaching, about laws
, are to be rejected.

1John 3:4.The New Testament definition for this word is: 'an established or permanent set of rules, prescribed by the supreme power for regulating the actions of their citizens. Laws command what shall be done, or not done, and disobedience incurs a penalty. The laws, which are prescribed by God, are written in His word and will be used by God to judge every person'.
Webster's 1828 defines the word law
as: 'n. L. lex; from the root of lay. See lay. A law is that which is laid, set or fixed, like statute, constitution, from L. statuo. 1. A rule, particularly an established or permanent rule, prescribed by the supreme power of a state to its subjects, for regulating their actions, particularly their social actions. Laws are imperative or mandatory, commanding what shall be done; prohibitory, restraining from what is to be forborn; or permissive, declaring what may be done without incurring a penalty. The laws which enjoin the duties of piety and morality, are prescribed by God and found in the Scriptures. Law is beneficence acting by rule. 2. Municipal law, is a rule of civil conduct prescribed by the supreme power of a state, commanding what its subjects are to do, and prohibiting what they are to forbear; a statute. Municipal or civil laws are established by the decrees, edicts or ordinances of absolute princes, as emperors and kings, or by the formal acts of the legislatures of free states. Law therefore is sometimes equivalent to decree, edict, or ordinance. 3. Law of nature, is a rule of conduct arising out of the natural relations of human beings established by the Creator, and existing prior to any positive precept. Thus it is a law of nature, that one man should not injure another, and murder and fraud would be crimes, independent of any prohibition from a supreme power. 4. Laws of animal nature, the inherent principles by which the economy and functions of animal bodies are performed, such as respiration, the circulation of the blood, digestion, nutrition, various secretions, etc. 5. Laws of vegetation, the principles by which plats are produced, and their growth carried on till they arrive to perfection. 6. Physical laws, or laws of nature. The invariable tendency or determination of any species of matter to a particular form with definite properties, and the determination of a body to certain motions, changes, and relations, which uniformly take place in the same circumstances, is called a physical law. These tendencies or determinations, whether called laws or affections of matter, have been established by the Creator, and are, with a peculiar felicity of expression, denominated in Scripture, ordinances of heaven. 7. Laws of nations, the rules that regulate the mutual intercourse of nations or states. These rules depend on natural law, or the principles of justice which spring from the social state; or they are founded on customs, compacts, treaties, leagues and agreements between independent communities. By the law of nations, we are to understand that code of public instruction, which defines the rights and prescribes the duties of nations, in their intercourse with each other. 8. Moral law, a law which prescribes to men their religious and social duties, in other words, their duties to God and to each other. The moral law is summarily contained in the decalogue or ten commandments, written by the finger of God on two tables of stone, and delivered to Moses on mount Sinai. Ex. 20. 9. Ecclesiastical law, a rule of action prescribed for the government of a church; otherwise called canon law. 10. Written law, a law or rule of action prescribed or enacted by a sovereign, and promulgated and recorded in writing; a written statute, ordinance, edict or decree. 11. Unwritten or common law, a rule of action which derives its authority from long usage, or established custom, which has been immemorially received and recognized by judicial tribunals. As this law can be traced to no positive statutes, its rules or principles are to be found only in the records of courts, and in the reports of judicial decisions. 12. By-law, a law of a city, town or private corporation. See By. 13. Mosaic law, the institutions of Moses, or the code of laws prescribed to the Jews, as distinguished from the gospel. 14. Ceremonial law, the Mosaic institutions which prescribe the external rites and ceremonies to be observed by the Jews, as distinct from the moral precepts, which are of perpetual obligation. 15. A rule of direction; a directory; as reason and natural conscience. These, having not the law, as a law to themselves. Rom. 2. 16. That which governs or has a tendency to rule; that which has the power of controlling. But I see another law in my members warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. Romans 7. 17. The word of God; the doctrines and precepts of God, or his revealed will. But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in his law doth he meditate day and night. Ps. 1. 18. The Old Testament. Is it not written in your law, I said, ye are gods? John 10. 19. The institutions of Moses, as distinct from the other parts of the Old Testament; as the law and the prophets. 20. A rule or axiom of science or art; settled principle; as the laws of versification or poetry. 21. Law martial, or martial law, the rules ordained for the government of an army or military force. 22. Marine laws, rules for the regulation of navigation, and the commercial intercourse of nations. 23. Commercial law, law-merchant, the system of rules by which trade and commercial intercourse are regulated between merchants. 24. Judicial process; prosecution of right in courts of law. Tom Touchy is a fellow famous for taking the law of every body. Hence the phrase, to go to law, to prosecute; to seek redress in a legal tribunal. 25. Jurisprudence; as in the title, Doctor of Laws. 26. In general, law is a rule of action prescribed for the government of rational beings or moral agents, to which rule they are bound to yield obedience, in default of which they are exposed to punishment; or law is a settled mode or course of action or operation in irrational beings and in inanimate bodies. Civil law, criminal law. See Civil and Criminal. Laws of honor. See Honor. Law language, the language used in legal writings and forms, particularly the Norman dialect or Old French, which was used in judicial proceedings from the days of William the conqueror to the 36th year of Edward III. Wager of law, a species of trial formerly used in England, in which the defendant gave security that he would, on a certain day, make his law, that is, he would make oath that he owed nothing to the plaintiff, and would produce eleven of his neighbors as compurgators, who should swear that they believed in their consciences that he had sworn the truth'.

Most laws
, in the true word of God
are given by God and enforced through His role as LORD
. Please see the Verses in The New Testament and the Summary about the name / role of LORD
. The law of Christ
is: the requirement for saved people to mature spiritually after they are saved and tells them how to do so. All other laws are enforced by God in His role as Lord
and, in that role, He has no respect of persons
.
Please see the note for Galatians C3S22 about the phrase Mosaic Law added
. Please also see the note for Hebrews 10:28-29 about the phrase New Testament replaces only The religious part of The Mosaic Law
. Please also see the note for Ephesians 4:7-LJC about the phrase righteousness of The Law
.
The phrase the law and the prophets
is used to indicate the Old Testament. Luke 16:16 says: The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it
. This, literally, tells us when the Old Testament ended and the New Testament started. See below for more on this doctrine.
Please see the notes for Romans 3:27-31 which explain that boasting
is not excluded
by the law of works
('obeying religious rules which religious people claim is required in order to be saved or sanctified by law'). However, boasting
is excluded
by the law of faith
. In addition, trusting obeying a religious law
, for your salvation or sanctification, excludes
the salvation and promises which God only gives through having the faith of Jesus Christ
.
Romans 7:4 says: Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God
. The phrase dead to the law
means: 'we no longer respond to the law (nor to religious rules)'. Our sentence goes on and says: by the body of Christ
, which means 'the truly saves are trusting in the death of Christ to pat for their personal salvation and sanctification' and they are not relying on keeping religious rules for their salvation nor for their sanctification. Our sentence continues with that ye should be married to another
, which means 'we have an ongoing personal relationship with Jesus Christ'. that means that we are not relying on strict rules of law
. Our sentence finishes with: that we should bring forth fruit unto God
. Fruit
is 'new life'. We can produce new spiritual life only be letting Jesus Christ
work though our own personal life to cause others to be born again
. People who are relying on law (religious rules) to give them salvation and sanctification are not worried about doing the 'Great Commission' but are worried about getting other people to obey their religious rules.
Romans 10:4 says: For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth
. This is the conclusion of the doctrinal teaching of the last several chapters where Paul dealt with claims that 'keeping the law (obeying religious ruled) provided salvation and/or sanctification'. If saved people are truly in Christ
then they have stopped keeping religious rules for righteousness
(the end of the law for righteousness
. I don't know how God could make it more plain. Yes, we have to obey rules but doing so does not give us righteousness
. This is especially true for demands that we keep rules which are based upon the religious part of the Mosaic Law because, as explained in Hebrews, the religious part of the Mosaic Law is based upon the New Testament. Clearly, people who insist that we must obey their religious rules, which are based upon the religious part of the Mosaic Law, have rejected the entire New Testament and all the promises of God which are in it.
1Corinthians 6:1 says: Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the unjust, and not before the saints?
. In that sentence, the word law
is used for the human legal system. It should be obvious that there is more than one legal system. Too many religious people assume that their religious rules are part of God's legal system and, therefore, have as much authority as God's commandments.
1Corinthians 6:7 says: Now therefore there is utterly a fault among you, because ye go to law one with another
. Paul goes on to explain why this is true. He does not say that it is wrong to take a lost person to court, but only another saved person.
Galatians 3:10 tells us that, responding to claims that the law ('keeping religious rules') provides salvation and/or sanctification, brings God's curse on us and keeps us from receiving the promise of the Spirit through faith
.
Galatians 3:11 tells us that, responding to claims that the law ('keeping religious rules') provides salvation and/or sanctification, prevents us from living by faith
. The rest of the chapter goes on and tells us that Jesus Christ
had to live and die to pay for the sins of the whole world
(1John 2:2). Now, God does not applies His payment to the legal record of all people but only to those people who truly put their own faith
is the payment made by Jesus Christ
. Thus, the claims that keeping the law
('keeping religious rules') provides salvation and sanctification is proven to be a lie because if that method truly provided salvation and sanctification, then Jesus Christ
never would have needed to live and die to pay for our sins.
Galatians 4:2 says: Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world
. Notice that our sentence says that were under the law
. the word were
is: 'a past-tense verb of being'. Thus, in the past, true children of God
were under the law
but no longer are under the law
. Therefore, people who claim that we need to keep the law
('obey their religious rules') are trying to force God's children back into a condition that the Son of God
paid a great price to remove them from.
Also, that sentence ends with: To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons
. The Son of God
paid the price (to redeem them
) so that the truly saved are no longer under the law
('had to obey religious rules') but could receive the adoption of sons
and receive God's character as their own personal character.
Galatians 4:21 says: Tell me, ye that desire to be under the law, do ye not hear the law?
and the remainder of the chapter answers that question. The next several sentences, in that chapter, explain the difference between being under the law
to being truly adopted as children of God
. As explained in the next few sentences, being under the law
gendereth to bondage
while being a true child of promise
makes you free
. Our chapter ends with: So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman, but of the free
.
Ephesians 2:15 tells us: aving abolished in his flesh...the law of commandments contained in ordinances
. Jesus Christ
died to free the saved from the law of commandments contained in ordinances
. People who claim that we must keep the law
'obey their religious rules') want to remove the results of the death of Jesus Christ
.
Philippians 3:3 says: For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh
. Paul continues with his personal testimony of how he, personally, had the best possible testimony of people who keep the law
while he was lost and persecuting the church. He continues with: Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith
. He do count them but dung
everything that keeping religious rules actually gives to someone.
Philippians 3:8-9 says: Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:
. Paul says that mine own righteousness, which is of the law
is dung
while the righteousness which is of God by faith
is: that which is through the faith of Christ
.
1Timothy 1:7 describes people who preach Keeping the law
as: some having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling; Desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm
. He commands Timothy, and us, do not give heed
because the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine
.
Titus 3:9 says: But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain
. Arguing with people who want to command others to keep the law
('obey their religious rules') is vain
and we are commanded to avoid suck foolishness
.
What I will explain next is explained in more detail in the documents accessed from the Hermey tab.
The Mosaic Law has three parts: God's moral Law, the Religious Law, and the Civil Law. Hebrews 13:17 says: Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you
. 1Peter 2:13-14 says: Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme; Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well
. Without going into the details (They are provided elsewhere on this site), we are told to submit to the civil law of the land we are in. Even Israel, of today, does not follow the Civil Law found in the Mosaic Law. In addition, everything found in the Moral Law, of the Mosaic Law, is dealing with haw we are to relate to God on a personal basis. All of that was established before Moses wrote the Mosaic Law and has never been changed. Therefore, it is still in effect as written. Then the Religious Law, the only remaining part, was replaced by the New Testament. However, people have been taught many doctrinal errors about this truth with some claiming that we still keep the Religious Law and some claiming that we keep no law and many claiming many other false doctrines about this subject.
This truth is explained in more detail elsewhere on this site, especially in the Book Study on Hebrews. That book explains the doctrine of the new covenant
and it, along with other Bible books, explain the doctrine of the new testament
. Both. a covenant
and a new testament
are legal documents. Both are part of God's law
, which is preserved unchanging by God. However, lots of religious people claim that they can change these documents and imply, without directly stating, that they can force God to use their changes. Hopefully, the reader understands how stupid such claims are. Since these legal documents are part of God's law
, which has more authority than the law of gravity, let such lying ministers of Satan prove that they can set aside the law of gravity before you believe their doctrines.
Now, as already mentioned, the Book of Hebrews specifies this doctrine and no men, nor religion, has the authority to alter what God had written in that Bible book. As explained, by God in that book, There is a legal document which is the same in all cultures, all legal systems and for all time. It is called a 'Last Will and Testament'. The Will part says: 'Here's who gets my stuff after I'm dead'. The Testament part says: 'Here's the last words I have for people'. Most men have an attitude of: 'I've listened to that person my whole life and don't care about their words. Tell me what stuff i get'. God's attitude is: 'I'm going to burn up all that stuff. My Testament is what is important'. And, while the attitudes are completely different, the legal document is the same. So, most people will best understand, the doctrine that God wrote, if they think of the word Will instead of Testament.
As Hebrews explains, you can only have one Will / Testament in effect at a given time. A new Will / Testament replaces the old one. Therefore, the religion which claims that 'God has two Will / Testament in effect at the same time' is lying. They are trying to claim that their doctrine of devils
is just as effective and has as much authority as the word of God
. In addition, only you can change your own Will / Testament. Therefore, the religions which claim that the Mosaic Religious Law is still partially in effect are trying to claim that they can change God's Will / Testament. Let them ride on the plane and prove that they have stopped God's law of gravity. That is the only way that they can prove that their religious doctrine from devils
can change God's Will / Testament. And, the religions which claim that God's law is no longer in affect are trying to claim that they can destroy God's Will / Testament. Let them ride on the plane and prove that they have stopped God's law of gravity.
Now. what has been implied, and stated, is that there are different types of laws and, within the Bible, only the Moral Law and the New Testament are still in effect. However, since the Prophets and Genesis deal with God's Moral Law, they are still in effect. The Civil Law is replaced by the laws of the government that rules the land you reside in. God's Mosaic Religious Law is replaced by the New Testament and new covenant, according to the Book of Hebrews and according to other books such as the words of Jesus
as reported in the Gospels. With these general concepts explained, we are now ready to look at specific doctrines and laws which are controlled by these truths.
There is much doctrinal error taught about Biblical laws. The New Testament definition, for the word law
, is: 'The set of written or commonly understood rules for unacceptable behavior and which can be used by a legal system for punishing offenders'. In most, but not all of the New Testament, this word is used for the Mosaic Religious Law. The note for Romans 4:14-14 explains 'Why God does not use the (Mosaic Religious) law
to save people'.
Contained within this Study are links to notes in each book of the New Testament where forms of the word law
are used. Those links are so that the reader can verify the doctrine presented. Since we will all be judged, by God, according to His written law
, it is imperative that we understand the truth about the true doctrines, and not the religious perversions of God's law
, which many devil motivated people, and religions, teach. Further, since many devil-motivated and deceived people declare themselves to be the final authority, on these doctrines, while teaching error, it is critical for us, and our loved ones, for us to be able to separate error and lies from the truth.
One of the most common perversions, which people and religions teach, is the definition of sin
. The true Biblical definition of sin
is: 'a violation of God's law'. The saying of: 'If you've done the crime then you've got to do the time' is definitely true under God's Law. And, God's time
is: 'eternity in the lake of fire
(Revelation 19:20)'. The only way to avoid this is to accept God's offer of salvation make only through accepting the Lord Jesus Christ
your personal Lord
. But, devil motivated and deceived people spread lies about what it truly sin
. They claim that sin
is: 'a violation of their own rules' and that they have the power and authority to force God to accept their perversions to God's law
. Please see the notes, below, about the true Biblical definition of sin
Romans C7S26; especially Sin in 1John. We also find the phrase, sin unto death
, in 1John 5:16; Romans 6:16. We see this doctrine dealt with in: Acts 5; Romans 5; 1Corinthians 8:11-LJC; Galatians C3-S26 and James 1:15.
Jesus
told the religious leaders It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true
in John 8:17. Their law
was, of course, written by God and the character, of the God of the word of God
, is that He keeps all laws
which He commands us to keep. Therefore, anything that is literally written twice, in the word of God
, is part of the law
of God. Anything written only once, or written indirectly, can be used for applications, but not for a law of God
.
Matthew 24:35; Mark 13:31 and Luke 21:33 all say: Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away
. That makes the Laws of God's word more powerful than the laws of creation, such as gravity or the laws of Math. Unfortunately, many people believe that their personal desires and personal beliefs can override this basic separation between a true law of God and the applications of God's laws. Let such a person take a plane to at least 2,000 feet in the air, strip down to their birthday suit and jump out to prove that their personal desire to float down is greater than God's law of gravity. Anyone who claims that their personal belief is greater than God's true laws found in the word of God
, but is not willing to provide the specified proof of their claim, thereby proves that they are a lying minister of devils.
That written, we need to consider that God does not change (Malachi 3:6; Hebrews 13:8). This is one of the never-changing laws of the word of God
. When God said a word in His word
, it had a meaning attached to it. God would have to change to give the same word a different meaning or to give a different word the same meaning. Too many people believe doctrines of devils
(1Timothy 4:1) when they claim that a given word, in the word of God
, has more than one meaning or that two different words, in the word of God
, have the same meaning. The same principals apply to doctrines. God would have to change in order for the word of God
to have opposing doctrines. At the time of this writing, there are over 7.5 billion Bible links of this web site. They show where God writes the same thing in many different places within His word
.
With that truth understood, we come to claimed conflicts within the word of God
. God is very specific and detailed in His word
. A lot of confusion comes from people not being as specific and detailed as God is when they specify a doctrine which they claim comes from the word of God
. I will explain in the next few paragraphs.
Now, please consider 2Timothy 2:15 which says: Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth
. Many people, wrongly, believe that they obey this command when that study what religion says about the word of truth
instead of studdying the word of truth
itself. That is not rightly dividing the word of truth
. If a child of God needs
something then God will be sure to provide it. If we are not rightly dividing the word of truth
then God will make us ashamed
. If he does not do so in this life, then He will do so at the judgment seat of Christ
(Romans 14:10; 2Corinthians 5:10). If God reveals our error there then all of Heaven will know that we taught doctrinal error and will know it for all of eternity (Matthew 10:26; and Luke 12:2). Therefore, it is foolish for a child of God to ignore this warning.
Dividing
is a Mathematical function whereby we separate according to precise rules which never change and we receive precise results. Mathematical functions are part of the never-changing laws which God established when He created this universe. Too many people make the mistake that they can be imprecise when interpreting the word of God
. This attitude is one of the reasons for many doctrinal errors being taught. Saved people who are not precise or who ignore God's never-changing laws for proper interpretation, of the word of God
, are not rightly dividing the word of truth
and God will make them ashamed
because they need
this result for their error.
One major method of this type of error was introduced by Satan when he tempted Jesus
. He quoted scripture but left out an important phrase, thereby perverting what God wrote (Matthew 4:6 and Luke 4:11). Many people use this same method, from Satan, to justify their doctrinal error.
Next, preachers mainly deal with applications of the word of God
. For words and doctrines, in the word of God
, there is a true saying of: 'There is one saying (doctrine / definition) but many applications'. Most people who claim to be saved agree with this saying until the single true definition proves a favorite application to be in error. Many preachers, and saved people, believe that dictionaries give definitions. However, they actually give applications and people believe that they can pick their favorite application and declare it to be the single definition of a Bible word. (If a dictionary does provide the single definition, it is typically lost within the many applications which the dictionary also provides.) That is one reason why we have so many opposing doctrines which are claimed to be the truth (definition or doctrine) from the word of God
. For example, Webster's 1828 dictionary has about 30 different applications within the definition provided of the word hand
. There are not that many different single definitions of this single Bible word. those are not many single definitions but many applications. And, Webster's 1828 is the most reliable dictionary for true definitions of Bible words.
The only way to find the true definition of a Bible word is to study every place where it is used in the word of God
and pay close attention to the context. What never changes, when those references are compared, is the true single definition and what changes, but is in the true word of God
, are the true multiple applications. All of this is explained in much more detail within the documents accessed from the Hermey tab. The problem, that most people have, is that this is far more work than they are willing to do in order to find true definitions of words within the word of God
.
The same thing happens with doctrines. There are many conflicting doctrines which all claim to be the single true doctrine of the word of God
. And, people find it to be too much work to truly, and personally, study everything that the word of God
says about a given doctrine. So, they accept what some self proclaimed expert claims. Such people, often, violate God's laws, on how to interpret the word of God
, through ignorance or laziness. This is why there are so many conflicting doctrines about what laws apply to God's people in the New Testament. Many people accept doctrines claimed by self proclaimed Bible experts, even when their doctrines violate God's never-changing laws for proper interpretation of the word of God
.
You might wonder 'What does this have to do with God's law?'. Simply put, true children of God who teach perverted doctrines and perverted definitions of Bible words are sinning and will be judged by God for that sin. One of the worst perversions of God's law is: 'No tears in Heaven'. God does not wipe away all tears from their eyes
(Revelation 21:4) until after the great white throne
judgment, which is at least 1007 years after the saved people get into Heaven. Therefore, saved people will have at least 1007 years of tears, averaging more than twice a week, (Isaiah 66:23-24) as they watch people burn in Hell who believed their doctrinal errors.
Now, there is one more general principal to consider before we get into the specifics of the doctrine presented in this paper.
There are only a handful of people who have ever written a book on how to interpret the word of God
. I am one of them. In addition, I have personally read every book published in the last 150 years on this subject. Every other book tells a religious method, which leads to errors and helps justify the lie that 'there are errors and conflicts in the word of God
'. My book and lessons, on the Hermey tab, prove that there are no errors and are no conflicts if you use God's method to interpret God's word. God showed me His method, which is written up in the documents mentioned, and no one has ever identified any place where what is on this site goes against what is written in the word of God
. Yes, what is here goes against many religious doctrines, but not against what is written in the word of God
. In addition, no one has ever identified any place where what is written in one place on this web site goes against what is written on another place within this web site. That is only possible if God is using me to provide research tools for His people. Only God can produce something with zero errors. I could not produce this site using my natural abilities.
For further information, please see Romans C3S25 about law and faith, Romans 13:8 about law and love, Psalms 119 about law of The Lord and Romans 3:27 about law of works.
In addition, the New Testament speaks about the law of Christ
. The law of Christ
is: 'what will be used to judge our personal obedience to personal commands which God gives to us while we are living'.
Please also see the following notes about the word law
. They give us general principals about God's laws:
Jesusdid not destroy the
lawbut fulfilled it.
lawwhen they add to it or change it in any way (Deuteronomy 4:2, Proverbs 30:6, Revelation 22:18-19). That is what the religious leaders did before challenging
Jesus.
the law of the Lordand are an example for us to follow.
lawdoes not give
grace and truthbut that those come only by
Jesus Christ.
lawdoes not give salvation but true salvation is only given by God
to them that obey him.
doers of the law shall be justified. We must obey God's laws even thought we are saved because salvation and
justificationare two different doctrines in God's word.
Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ. it is His
faithwhich
justifiesthe saved and obedient.
But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.
Desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm. And, we are instructed to:
charge some that they teach no other doctrine(than the Gospel that Paul gave).
they are unprofitable and vain. We are to answer serious questions but avoid arguments where someone only wants to push their point and is unwilling to hear any opposing doctrine.
Jesus Christis after the order of
Melchisedecand has a higher authority than any Earthly priest. Therefore, we are to put His commands above any command that is based upon the Mosaic Law.
looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the workto
a hearer of the word, and not a doerand tells us that only the continuous
doeris
blessed.
And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure. Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. That is, anyone who does not have a life-style of getting rid of personal sin (
purifieth himself) is continually violating God's law. Such people may claim that they don't violate God's law and that they are true Christians, but this book call them a
liar(1John 3:3-4). Therefore, we truly keep God's law only if we have a life-style of getting rid of personal sin (
purifieth himself).
Now, going to the specifics of the doctrine covered by this document, we must consider 'God's Laws for the New Testament'. There is a lot of doctrinal error taught about this subject. Some is from people deliberately teaching doctrines of devils
(1Timothy 4:1) and some is due to people believing a lie, without verifying what they believe against what is actually written in the word of God
. Another reason is that people use wrong procedures when they try to interpret what the word of God
truly says and they receive wrong understanding. This is often due to people using natural reasoning
(1Corinthians 2:14) to try and understand spiritual truths. And, there are probably other reasons for errors, but I believe what is mentioned are probably the main reasons for these types of errors.
Below are some of the laws
that have been identified as applying to saved people. Please use the links provided to see the details explained for each of these laws:
the law of faith: Romans 3:27.
the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus: Romans 8:2.
the law to Christis in our current verse.
the law of Christ: Galatians 6:2.
law of her husband: Romans 7:2.
law of righteousness: Romans 9:31.
law of my mind
the Law of Moses: (The church is required to keep only the 'moral' part of
the Law of Moses): Luke 2:22; Luke 24:44; John 7:23; Acts 13:39; Acts 15:5; Acts 28:23 and 1Corinthians 9:9.
the Law of the Lord: Psalms 119.

. Please also see the note for Luke 14:3 about the word lawyer
. Please also see the note for Galatians C3S22 about the phrase Mosaic Law added

. Please also see the note for Ephesians 4:7-LJC about the phrase righteousness of the Law
. Please also see the note for Revelation 13:8-LJC about the phrase book of the life
. Our life
is very definitely affected by God's law
.
Moving on, Romans 3:27 tells us that we are under The law of faith
. Likewise, Romans 8:2 tells us that we are under The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus
. Galatians 6:2 tells us about The law of Christ
. Romans 7:2 tells us about the law of her husband
. Romans 9:31 tells us about the law of righteousness
.
Romans 7:23 tells us about the law of my mind
. Luke 2:22; Luke 24:44; John 7:23; Acts 13:39; Acts 15:5; Acts 28:23 and 1Corinthians 9:9 all mention The Law of Moses
, and the church is required to keep only the 'moral' part of The Law of Moses
. Luke calls the 'moral' part The Law of the Lord
(Luke 2:23-24; Luke 2:39). This is very similar to The Law of God
, which we find in Romans 7:22. Romans 7:25. 1John 5:11-12 tells us The Law of life
. James 1:25 and 2:12 tell us The Law of liberty
. In Acts 22:3 we see The law of the fathers
and in Acts 25:8 we see The law of the Jews
. Both of these are man made religious laws
, which we do not keep. Romans 7:21 tells us about the law of evil
. Romans 7:23 tells us about the law of sin
. 8:2 tells us about The law sin and death
. These and many more are established
(proven to be more reliable than the laws of nature) by the life of the saved person.
The phrase book of the law
is found in Deuteronomy 29:21; Deuteronomy 30:10; Deuteronomy 31:26; Joshua 1:8; Joshua 8:31; Joshua 8:34; Joshua 23:6; Joshua 24:26; 2Kings 14:6; 2Kings 22:8; 2Kings 22:11; 2Chronicles 17:9; 2Chronicles 34:14-15; Nehemiah 8:1; Nehemiah 8:3; Nehemiah 8:18; Nehemiah 9:3 and our current sentence. While it was originally used for the first five (5) books written by Moses, some people have expanded the meaning to include all of the Old Testament.
The word law
: is used in Psalms 119 to mean 'The general category that encompasses all of the other legal words that are used within this Psalm'. Please see the Word Definitions section for many of the other words that are involved in God's law
. People need to completely study these words also if they want to claim to be an expert on law
within God's word.
While there are a lot more references to The law of the LORD
than the verses which use that exact phrase, looking at those verses gives us a good general understanding of what we are to walk in
. This exact phrase occurs in:
But Jehu took no heed to walk in the law of the LORD God of Israel with all his heart: for he departed not from the sins of Jeroboam, which made Israel to sin.Jehu brought the judgment of God upon those who followed him.
according to all that is written in the law of the LORD.

And it came to pass, when Rehoboam had established the kingdom, and had strengthened himself, he forsook the law of the LORD, and all Israel with him.Rehoboam brought the judgment of God upon his followers.

And they taught in Judah, and had the book of the law of the LORD with them, and went about throughout all the cities of Judah, and taught the people.God blessed the people who followed Jehoshaphat.
He appointed also the king's portion of his substance for the burnt offerings, to wit, for the mourning and evening burnt offerings, and the burnt offerings for the Sabbaths, and for the new moons, and for the set feasts, as it is written in the law of the LORD. Moreover he commanded the people that dwelt in Jerusalem to give the portion of the priests and the Levites, that they might be encouraged in the law of the LORD.this is talking about Hezekiah and God's people were blessed when they followed him.
And when they brought out the money that was brought into the house of the LORD, Hilkiah the priest found a book of the law of the LORD given by Moses.this is talking about Josiah and God's people were blessed when they followed him.
Now the rest of the acts of Josiah, and his goodness, according to that which was written in the law of the LORD,this is talking about Josiah and God's people were blessed when they followed him.
For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the law of the LORD, and to do it, and to teach in Israel statutes and judgments.God's people were blessed when they followed Ezra.

The law of the LORD their God.
But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.this is part of the first Psalm, which provides the basic way to get God's
blessings.
The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. Here we see the power of

Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the LORD. Here we see that we must take repeated small steps

Therefore as the fire devoureth the stubble, and the flame consumeth the chaff, so their root shall be as rottenness, and their blossom shall go up as dust: because they have cast away the law of the LORD of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.this section tells us the result that God's people will have if they
cast away the law of the LORD.
that this is a rebellious people, lying children, children that will not hear the law of the LORD:this tells us that we are
rebellious people, lying childrenwhen we
will not hear the law of the LORD.
How do ye say, We are wise, and the law of the LORD is with us? Lo, certainly in vain made he it; the pen of the scribes is in vain.Obviously, this was said to people who claimed one thing while they lived another.
Thus, saith the LORD; for three transgressions of Judah, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have despised the law of the LORD, and have not kept his commandments, and their lies caused them to err, after the which their fathers have walked:this tells us that when God's people
have not kept his commandments, and their lies caused them to err, they have
despised the law of the LORD.
(As it is written in the law of the Lord, Every male that openeth the womb shall be called holy to the Lord;) and to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.this lets us know that even in birth, Jesus kept
The law of the Lord.
And when they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city Nazareth. Here we see that Mary and Joseph kept
The law of the Lord.
What we see consistently is that God's people who 'trust and obey' The law of the Lord
bring blessings upon themselves and their followers. God's people who do not 'trust and obey' the law of the Lord
bring God's judgment upon themselves and their followers. Further, we saw that to 'trust and obey' The law of the Lord
required having wisdom and understanding
from God. This is because The law of the Lord
encompasses other terms found in this Psalm such as precepts
, statutes
, commandments
, judgments
, and God's testimonies
. Thus, The law of the Lord
is more than just a bunch of rules for us to follow. Please also see The note for Romans 8:1 and The note for Ephesians 4:1 for links to verses within Romans which use forms of the word walk
. Please also see The note for Romans C9-S28 for how the saved are to live / walk by faith
.
Now, that should be sufficient to get a general understanding that there are several laws
which apply to God's people today. In addition, we can look at the notes written for every New Testament sentence which uses the word law
. Those notes explain how this word is used in that context. We find forms of the word law
occurring 582 times in 522 verses of the Bible, 263 times in 209 verses of the New Testament. That many references should prove that law
is very important within the New Testament and that any one who claims otherwise is a liar.

in: Genesis 49:10; Numbers 21:18; Deuteronomy 33:21; Psalms 60:7; Psalms 108:8; Isaiah 33:22 and James 4:12 The New Testament definition for this word is: 'the person who enacts a law. In the Bible, God is the only lawgiver of Biblical laws'.
The Morrish Bible Dictionary defines this word as: 'This in the first place refers to God; but in human affairs He is pleased to delegate His authority to the rulers, and Judah is twice mentioned as God's lawgiver. Ge 49:10; Nu 21:18; De 33:21; Ps 60:7; 108:8; Isa 33:22; Jas 4:12'. While the commentators do not recognize this truth, James, symbolically, calls our Lord Jesus Christ
the lawgiver
